The most famous wrongful death lawsuit in the news today is the one involving Michael Jackson – brought on by his mother Katherine.
The long-awaited verdict finally came through – a jury in a unanimous decision has cleared AEG of all liability in the King of Pop’s death. Back in 2009, Katherine Jackson and Michael’s 3 children sued concert promoter AEG Live because of an overdose of the surgical anesthetic Propofol, which killed the singer. He was 50 when he died.
According to the suit, Jackson’s family has alleged that AEG Live negligently hired Conrad Murray to be Michael’s personal physician when he did his comeback tours. They claim he was not competent enough to handle Michael’s care and ultimately was responsible for his death. Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter and convicted in 2011.
A wrongful death lawsuit is usually brought by the surviving members of the victim’s family, alleging the victim died to the negligence of another person.
